Koi UFO Video 116 : Teleporting girl or alien (Zhu Xian 2 computer game)

[DEBUNKED] Koi UFO Video 116 appears to show someone teleporting a man on a rickshaw to safety when a truck rapidly approaches.  Two copies of this video on Youtube have over 8 million views EACH as at May 2016, one of which is accompanied by text stating "Superhuman person or alien saves a man on a motorbike from complete destruction by teleporting him a few meters away in less than a second, and then flees the scene as quickly as possible". Most of the numerous copies of the video on Youtube include the words "teleportation", "alien" and/or "angel" in their title.

(Online discussions of the video usually refer to the rickshaw as a "bicycle" or "motorbike"...)

In fact,  this video was made as part of a promotional campaign for an online video game, "Zhu Xian 2", by the Chinese based company "Perfect World" involving the character "Dragon Totem Girl". The video prominently featured a logo associated with that game and the video appeared on a website promoting that game.

Viral adverts for computer games have been responsible for a small number of other UFO videos (e.g. a viral advertisement for the "Act of War : Direct Action") with viral advertising for other products accounting for several of the more polished hoaxed UFO videos in recent years. The other products and services promoted by viral UFO videos have been very wide ranging, including a new Toyota, an energy companya science-fiction television show and company offering advertising on pizza-box).

One of the earliest (and longest) discussions of the video was in Chinese on the Tudou website.

3. The real background to this video

In fact,  this video was made as part of a promotional campaign for an online video game, "Zhu Xian 2", by the Chinese based company "Perfect World" involving the character "Dragon Totem Girl". The video prominently featured a logo associated with that game and the video appeared on a website promoting that game.

When this video appeared online in 2012, in a discussion of the video on the the AboveTopSecret.com forum began with several pages focused on whether angels exist but on 15 September 2012 a member of (with the username "Irsuccubus") posted that he had spotted that a circle appears on the ground at one point in the video and the symbol in that circle resembled the logo from a game company.  He posted that logo, which was on part of the wanmei.com website giving some news in Chinese about a new game from Chinese based company Perfect World Entertainment.

That logo can be seen in the middle of the screen-shot below from the teleportation video .

The logo appeared on the website promoting the game in various places, including in the news item as follows:

The new game mentioned on that website was called "Zhu Xian 2" in China, but marketed in the west as "Jade Dynasty 2". Jade Dynasty is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPGs).

The following day, on 16 September 2012, several people on the AboveTopSecret.com discussion forum posted links to another part of the wanmei.com website. That part related to a female character named "Dragon Totem Girl" and included the relevant logo and the teleportation video.

Some other websites subsequently posted about the connection between the video and the video game website (almost invariably without giving credit to earlier identifications of this connection...). One of the more informative articles, entitled "Teleporting superhero alien, or video game character" appeared on the Open Minds website on 20 September 2012 with a more detailed article appearing on the Hoax Slayer website in 2013 (although that latter article did include some minor factual errors, e.g. referring to the relevant computer game as "Dragon Totem Girl" when in fact Dragon Totem Girl is a character associated with the game).

A "Brand Strategy Consultant", Julia Makhalova, living in China wrote a blog item in 2013 explaining "Dragon Totem Girl" and the related promotional campaign. She described "Dragon Totem Girl" as a girl that "looks like Lara Croft, but with a batman style costume on".

Ms Makhalova explained that Perfect World promoted the game by getting someone to look like the "main character from the game and showed how this person can use ones superpowers in regular life".  The company made other videos on different superpowers, including telekinesis and teletransportation.  Dragon Totem Girl also visited a children's hospital and participation in charities.

Ms Makhalova noted that Dragon Totem Girl had over 10 thousand fans on her page on the Chinese social website Weibo. (Dragon Totem Girl's Weibo page also features the logo from the teleportation video).

Ms Makhalova also reported that Perfect World got into newspapers without paying for advertisements by using Dragon Totem Girl.
