On 20 November 1972, a symposium jointly sponsored by NASA and Boston University was held at Boston University to explore the social, philosophic and humanistic impact of SETI.

 

 

 

During 1973, molecular biologists Francis Crick and Leslie Orgel wrote an article putting forward the idea that life might have been intentionally spread throughout space and seeded on the surface of other worlds by a guiding intelligence (commonly referred to as “directed panspermia”).
