    On 16 July 1969, the United States adopted Title 14, Section 1211 of the Code of Federal Regulations (“14 CFR 1211”), since known as the “Extra-Terrestrial Exposure Law”, applicable to “allNASA manned and unmanned space missions which land or come within the atmospheric envelope of a celestial body and return to the Earth”. Revoked in April 1991. (Commonly referred to as “the ET law” or “the ET exposure law”.)

    On 20 October 1969, Brigadier General C H Bolender wrote a memo recommending termination of Project Blue Book. He stated that “reports of unidentified flying objects which could affect national security are made in accordance with JANAP 146 or Air Force Manual 55-11, and are not part of the Blue Book system”. Thus although “termination of Project Blue Book would leave no official federal office to receive reports of UFOs”, he commented that “reports of UFOs which could affect national security would continue to be handled through the standard Air Force procedures designed for this purpose”

    On 14 November 1969, a sighting, involving astronauts Pete Conrad, Alean Bean and Dick Gordon on Apollo 12, allegedly occurred.

    As with several other alleged astronaut sightings, a wide variety of contradictory dates are given for the alleged sighting in the various relevant sources.

    On 29 November 1969, a letter waspublished in the journal Nature entitled “Ball Lightning”, in which Professor R C Jennison (sometimes mispelt as Jenninson) of the Electronics Laboratories at the University of Kent reported seeing a glowing sphere float down the aisle of an Eastern Airlines Jet flight from New York to Washington on 19th March 1963

Various participants (including Dr J Allen Hynek, James E McDonald and Lester Grinspoon) contributed their papers to a book edited by Carl Sagan and Thornton Page (“UFO’s : A Scientific Debate” (1972)).
