On 3 August 1965, highway investigator Rex Heflin of the Orange County (California) Highway Department claims to have taken 3 photographs of a UFO at Santa Ana, California.
This incident is Case 62 in Isaac Koi's "Top 100" article, since it was referred to in 46 of the books covered by that article.
This was Project Blue Book Case Number 9654.
Robert Sheaffer has referred to Heflin’s photographs as “one of the most highly regarded series of ‘classic’ UFO photos of all time”.
The Condon Report states that the case regarding these photos “must remain inconclusive” and comments that the case is “of exceptional interest because it is so well documented”.
This incident has also featured in a list of cases produced by Greg Bishop for the Fortean Times in 2007 as part of a survey of various researchers of the ten cases from 1947 onwards that interested them the most.
